What is EPIC?

“The shape of social connection between people is changing. Understanding these changes is why we need people with deep ethnographic skills.”
—Elizabeth Churchill, Director of UX, Google

EPIC promotes the use of ethnographic principles to create business value.

We are a community of practitioners who work to ensure that innovation, strategies, processes and products address business opportunities that are anchored in what matters to people in their everyday lives. We draw on tools and resources from the social sciences and humanities as well as Design Thinking, Agile, Lean Start-up and other approaches to realize value for corporations from understanding people and their practices. EPIC people come together at our annual conference and year-round on epicpeople.org to create knowledge, share expertise and expand opportunities.

Through the formal program and informal networking opportunities, EPIC attendees access global experts, gain knowledge and skills they can implement immediately, find new business partners and opportunities, and make the invaluable connections that have grown EPIC into an essential, year-round community.

The Value of Being There

“As with the best conferences, EPIC provided an incredible amount of useful experiences, and it was great to share findings, methods and thoughts with a fantastic group of people. No wonder many had travelled so far to participate. I left EPIC excited to apply the latest thinking in ethnography to the design research work we do at LUNAR.” Read more
